The Trains

Since its establishment in 1989, Rovos Rail has earned an international reputation for its truly world class travel experiences. Step aboard the wood panelled coaches - classics remodelled and refurbished to mint condition - and enjoy fine cuisine in five-star luxury as some of the most varied scenery imaginable unfolds beyond the windows.

Recapture the romance and atmosphere of a bygone era, when privileged travellers experienced the magic and mystery of Africa in a relaxed and elegant fashion.The trains - which may be hauled by steam, diesel or electric locomotives at various stages of the journey - carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites.

Pride of place in the Rovos stable goes to the historic and newly rebuilt Capital Park Station and locomotive yard, which is the heart and new headquarters of this private railway company.

Air Safaris 

Rovos Air has a proud fleet of four classic aircraft, all fitted with business class seats and restored to Rovos standards. The two splendid Convair 440’s have proven conclusively to be one of the most reliable post-war passenger aircraft ever built, sporting spacious, pressurised cabins seating up to 24 passengers in true Rovos style and comfort.

Their 1944 Douglas DC 3, called ‘Delaney’ after a child who was born on board in October 1975, has been rebuilt with 21 business class seats and a very plush interior. The Douglas DC-4 embodies the safety, range, comfort and space of a true Business class 50-seat prop liner.

The aircraft are crewed by a captain, first officer, flight engineer and two flight attendants. Onboard service by our capable staff is of our usual high standard, complemented by the facilities of an efficient and comprehensive galley.

The aircraft will be used to convey our train passengers from Polokwane to Victoria Falls in Zambia on our scheduled Pretoria to Victoria Falls journeys as well as our exclusive 12 night, Southern African Air Safari. Rovos Air is able to offer our valued clientele a 21, 36 or 50 seat aircraft for charter anywhere in Southern Africa from our base at Lanseria Airport.
