Bombardier XRSVersace has long been recognised as one of the world’s high-flying fashion houses. Well now the company is taking to the skies by designing exclusive interiors for luxurious private jet aircraft.

Its designers, led by Donatella Versace, are developing a range of jets with Versace interiors as well as customised exterior paint schemes.

Aircraft include the market’s largest private jets such as the Bombardier Global Express XRS and Global 5000, the Gulfstream G550 and the Boeing BBJ/737. The XRS is reckoned to be the most luxurious in the world, costing about £24million, and only the likes of Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg can afford to own one.

Applying a unique interior design philosophy to aircraft requires the expertise of specialists in plane design and management and for this reason Versace has formed a partnership with TAG Aircraft Interiors, leaders in their field.

Versace will help owners of private jets to establish the floor plan of their aircraft and then create an exquisite and uniquely personal luxury interior. The service is aimed at answering the needs of the most discerning customers, with each custom interior being exclusive.

In true couture style, the wishes of the individual will be followed and this will determine the extent of patterns used, the combination of materials and the configuration of the cabinetry and seat and sleeping areas. Versace aim to provide a “turn key service” with all components of the finished interior, including lamps, vases, plates, glasses, tables and furniture.

Leather dominates the Versace “sky’s the limit” designs, with an abundance of leather seats and sofas, from the romantic to the functional. The armrests have lacquered and satin finish inserts that complete the overall feel of luxury ltalian craftsmanship and superior style.

There is even a reclining armchair which carries Versace’s signature look with the classic Greek fret motif, the chief decorative element in all interiors in the Versace Home Couture collection. The ergonomic design of the armchair models the human body and its reclining capabilities are aimed at giving a feeling of matchless comfort.

Chief designer Donatella Versace says: “No two jets will be the same. This is a genuine bespoke service.”

And the cost of this service for the super-rich seeking the ultimate in originality?
About £10million.

Even the catalogue is a limited issue collector’s item. Superbly signed and bound in silk, it is presented only to exclusive clientele and prospective customers.

As Versace chief executive Giancarlo Di Risio says: “True luxury is about quality not quantity.”
