Gaspard Yurkievich is rightly part of a new generation of designers emerging from Paris.
These new designers combine the creativity of London with France's fashion heritage. THe results are startling.
Yurkievich was born in Paris in 1972 and studied at the Bercot Studio in the early nineties.
During his studies he took an internship with Thierry Mugler and then with Jean Paul Gaultier.
Having completed his studies he went to assist the independent label Jean Colonna which allowed him to gain perspective on all areas of the fashion industry.
In 1997, he started his own womenswear label and was awarded the prestigious womenswear prize at the Hyères Festival.
In 1998 he received funding from ANDAM, an organisation set up by the French Ministry of Culture to support young designers, and showed his first collection in Paris.
Yurkievich has gone from strength to strength and is a shining example leading of a generation of young French designers, who combine the cutting edge with tradition, to create something fresh.
