Jean-Paul Gaultier was born in 1952 and started his career in 1970 at Pierre Cardin.

He set up his own label in 1976, creating clothing that owed more to contemporary culture than Parisian couture.

He created his first collection for women in 1983 followed by a mens collection in 1985.

In 1962 Jean-Louis Scherrer created his Haute Couture house located at the 182, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. At this point he focused on jackets and drapped cocktail dresses in animal, floral and spotted prints.

He then assisted Hubert de Givenchy for 12 years. From 1989 until 1996, he designed for Hanae Mori.
