![]() Fergie of Black Eyed Peas a Winner from Concert for Diana If there is one winner out of the Concert For Diana it must be pop singer Fergie (of Black Eyed Peas fame) who has recently become the first global star to agree to product placement for a fashion company in her songs with a £2m deal. Her exposure yesterday to a global audience of hundreds of millions of viewers must have the sponsors clapping their hands with joy.
The 32-year-old singer and solo star at the Concert for Diana at Wembley, has agreed to write tunes promoting a clothing brand called Candie’s. Many modern musicians do sprinkle their songs with brand names, to make lyrics more 'realistic' or pick up sponsorship afterwards if the record is a hit. Last year, McDonalds famously went further by offering financial incentives to musicians to include use of their brand names in songs. The project has met with muted success. But the musician born Stacy Ann Ferguson has taken the commercialisation of pop music to a new level. She will be dressed by Candie's and consultants from the company will be present at her concerts to advise audience members about fashion and the Brand. As one music industry insider added, 'With sales of CD's in continuous decline, the industry has to think of new ways to make money.' Welcome to the future of music! |
