Neo Classical |

|
Neo Classical is a nineteenth century French art style and movement that originated as a reaction to Baroque. Sir Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough are notable British masters of this form. The above painting of the MP Abel Moysey was painted in 1771 by Gainsborough. Neo Classicism sought to revive the ideals of ancient Greek and Roman art. Neoclassic artists used classical forms to express their ideas about courage, sacrifice, and love of country. David and Canova are further examples of neo-classicists.
