Awarded to the fastest yacht to sail round the world to and from a specfied line off France's west coast. The Jules Verve idea, of sailing around the world in under 80 days, was originally conceived by French sailor Yves Le Cornec in 1985. Record of 71 days 14 hours was set by Frenchman Olivier de Kersauson in his trimaran Sport-Elec in 1997, beating Sir Peter Blake and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's previous record of 74 days on catamaran ENZA in 1994 French skipper Bruno Peyron and his crew on the giant catamaran Orange sailed round-the-world in 64 days - smashing the Jules Verne Trophy record by seven days in 2002 |
