Berlin
is the political and cultural capital of Germany, located in the north-east
of the country near the Polish border.
After the World War II, the capital was divided and the German government fled to Bonn. The Brandenburg Gate - left - is Berlin's only remaining city gate and a symbol of the city.
The city boasts new buildings by modern architects - Foster and Libeskind to name but two - scores of museums, theatres and three opera houses.
Berlin is well and truly on the map. Summers are warm (average temp. 18°C), winters are cold (average temp.-1°C), but Berlin does not suffer from too much rainy weather.
Germany's capital changes from day to day and, specifically for this reason, is always worth a visit. Visitors return to Berlin over and over again to discover something new.
The year 2005 it is all about Albert Einstein, who died 50 years ago. Numerous exhibitions and events in Berlin and periphery display not only the ingenious scientific achievement but also the person Albert Einstein - as a physicist, a Jewish cosmopolitan and as a pacifist.
