Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be sure how much the reward should be – but don’t let that worry you, with settlements nearly always in the millions, there is sure to be a pay day in this for someone.
All Holocaust claims are registered on the ALR database free of charge and are systematically checked against forthcoming auction house sales - over 300,000 lots per annum. Additionally, the ALR attends art trade fairs in Holland, Switzerland, Germany and France, Italy and the United States where dealers' stock is compared to the database in order to identify stolen and looted art on behalf of theft victims. Claims are also compared to museum records, Nazi confiscation lists, catalogue raisonnés, exhibition catalogues and other literature with the aim of locating the missing artworks. The painting in question is Le Port de Moret by Alfred Sisley – an Oil on Canvas.
